City will outline street work
Contractor will give details at meeting July 28 at 6:30 p.m.

By Rodger Nichols
of The Chronicle

The City of The Dalles has announced that work on the East Second Street/Brewery Grade traffic roundabout will begin the first week in August, with a target date for completion of Nov. 19.
The Community Development Department will host a public meeting with contractor Crestline to provide complete detailed information for drivers, residents and business owners on Tuesday, July 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium.
Here are some of the key items that will be presented:
Brewery Grade will be closed for the duration of the project. That closure could begin as early as Monday, Aug. 3, and no later than Friday, Aug. 7.
Traffic will continue both ways on East Second Street during construction, though there may be occasional temporary delays.
The city is establishing a website to provide detailed information about the project.
Weekly meetings are planned to coordinate progress.
Jim Schwinof of the Community Development Department has been designated the contact person for all parties regarding the project.
Two buildings in the area, housing the High Hills Salon and Rena Hunley Real Estate, will be demolished by the property owner, not by any city requirement.      The Cannon Packer building will remain, and city and contractor crews will make every effort to provide maximum access to the site.
More detailed information will be available at the meeting.
