One person died and two were injured in a snowy two-car collision on Tygh Ridge late Friday morning.
The Oregon State Police (OSP) is investigating the crash that occurred at 10 a.m. on Highway 197, 18 miles south of The Dalles.
A 2002 Nissan Xterra operated by Theresa Richey, 21, of The Dalles was southbound on Highway 197.
According to police reports, Richey lost control on the snow-covered highway and crossed into the oncoming lane, striking a 1979 GMC pickup with camper.
The pickup was operated by Morris Jones, 75, of Gresham.
The right front passenger in the Xterra, Cheryl Anne Schugt, 55, from The Dalles, died at the scene.
Two other passengers in the Xterra were injured. They were Sharie Schugt, from The Dalles and Richey’s one-month-old daughter Bailey Richey. Theresa Richey and Sharie Schugt are daughters of Cheryl Anne Schugt.
Jones received non-life-threatening injuries.
All occupants were using safety restraints and Bailey Richey had been in an infant seat. The highway was partially closed for about four hours.
