City: Keep leaves out
of streets
The Dalles public works is asking for help clearing leaves from storm drains.
The leaves are also slowing down street sweepers. During peak leaf season, the trucks must be emptied as many as eight times per day, compared to one or two normally.
Leaves should either be composted or bagged for disposal, according to the city. The Dalles Disposal is accepting leaves at no charge during November, if they are taken to the transfer station at 1317 W. First St., Monday through Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. For more information, call The Dalles Disposal at 298-5149.
City ordinance 93-1175 provides enforcement and penalties for dumping leaves into the street.
Section 13 states: “No person shall deposit any earth or other debris upon any street or sidewalk.”
For more information, call public works at 296-5401, ext. 2001.
