Scouts find rabid bat

CORVALLIS (AP) — A bat that was picked up by a group of Boy Scouts canoeing in the Willamette River has tested positive for rabies.

Benton County health officials said Wednesday the boys who touched the bat with their bare hands will be evaluated to determine whether they were exposed to the disease and need a vaccine.

The Oregonian reports this is the second bat in Benton County, and the seventh in the state of Oregon, to test positive for rabies this year.
