Olympia eyes transient rules

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — At its last meeting of the year Tuesday night the Olympia City Council is considering further restrictions on transients sitting on sidewalks and camping downtown.

The Olympian reports the council is considering speeding up procedures so the measures would take effect Jan. 18.

Earlier this month City Manager Steve Hall asked for a ban on camping outside City Hall because of health and safety issues. He said a dog belonging to one of the campers attacked a city employee, and people have used drugs and urinated next to City Hall.
