Temperatures at The Dalles airport averaged near normal during March, according to preliminary data received by NOAA’s National Weather Service in Pendleton.
The average temperature was 47.2 degrees, 0.4 degrees above normal. Highs averaged 58.5 degrees, 1.4 degrees above normal. The highest was 76 degrees on the March 31. Low temperatures averaged 35.8 degrees, which was 0.7 degrees below normal. The lowest was 23 degrees, March 4.
The low temperature dipped below 32 degrees on 10 days.
Precipitation totaled 0.91 inches during March, 0.24 inches below normal. Measurable precipitation — at least .01 inch — was received on six days with the heaviest, 0.40 inches, reported March 6.
Precipitation this year has reached 1.60 inches, which is 3.67 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at The Dalles airport has been 7.66 inches, which is 3.14 inches below normal.
The highest wind gust was 59 mph on March 20. Wind exceeded 50 miles per hour on one day.
The outlook for April from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center is for near-normal temperatures and near-normal precipitation. Normal highs for The Dalles airport rise from 61 degrees at the start of April to 69 degrees at the end of April. Normal lows rise from 39 degrees to 45 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.74 inches.
