TDW starting to hit its track stride

As the season goes on, the numbers keep dropping for The Dalles Wahtonka.

TDW’s track and field team was in action Tuesday for the Pendleton Junior Varsity Meet in Pendleton and had the boy’s relay team pull off a double sweep and sophomore Yasmin Hill tacked on a pair of second-place finishes to highlight the bunch.

In the 4x100 relay, the team of Andres Manzo, Julio Manzo, Also Rivas and Damion Morris scorched the field with a final time of 42.58 seconds for top honors.

Andres Manzo was also part of the quarter of Christian Garcia, Julio Silva and Rivas that scored first place in the 4x400 relay run with a time of three minutes and 56.81 seconds.

Destin Ramsey added a fourth-place finish in discus with a distance of 103-feet-2 inches and Javier Marinez added fourth to top his record in the triple jump with a marker of 33-10.

In the long jump, Rivas placed sixth at 17-10.50, Christian Garcia kicked in a 17-09.5 for seventh place and Morris turned in a 10th slot for his 17-01.

On the girl’s side, Hill came through with her best performance of the season in the high jump and pole vault with two second-place tallies.

Hill soared to 4-06 in the high jump and tied with Kellina Coy in the pole vault with a 7-0.

Brittany Babb secured fourth in the 100-meters at 14.04 and she notched sixth in the 200 where she crossed the tape in 29.36.

Caela Dunagan had a solid outing in her attempt at 800-meters and she ended up fourth with a time of 2:57.89.

Dunagan placed fourth in the 1,500 with a 6:04.43, and teammate Audrey Miller ended up fifth in 6:10.12.

Liz Tunai grabbed fourth in discus with her top toss of 83-09, and Rose Stephens ended up sixth in javelin with her 82-02.

The 4x400 relay team of Alyssa Valles, Bri Stavaas-Jamack, Brittany Coleman and Yesina Aguilar turned in a 5:05.28 for sixth in the standings.

TDW hits the track again at 11 a.m. Saturday in Gresham.
