A problem with the National Instant Check System has been fixed and service restored at 4:07 p.m. allowing firearm background checks to resume. The problem affected Oregon's Firearm Instant Check System's ability to conduct firearms background checks for approximately 2 hours.
The Oregon State Police understands how frustrating the unexpected disruption was for those who rely on this service and our staff will be working hard to complete any outstanding requests as soon as possible.
Editor's note: The Chronicle did not receive this follow-up notice at the time the Oregon State Police reported sending it, thus the delay in information.
