Letter to the Editor: Circuit Rider rally

— Rally at our state capitol in April 19 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event is sponsored by ROAR Ministries — Reviving Oregon’s Amazing Roots. Aaron Auer, who has visited all of our counties in the state with the trust of our Christian heritage and preached in many of our local churches, is inviting us to voice our opinions at this rally.

If you cannot attend, you can call your legislators and those sponsoring House Bill 2387 that would replace our statue of the circuit rider, with a Bible in his hand, and put up a statue of Senator Hatfield in its place. This would be in the U.S. Capitol and each state is allowed two statues.

The quote is wanting to modernize our history.

Are we proud of our Christian heritage in this state? Are we proud of Pulpit Rock and our local work with the Native Americans? Remember, it was Hatfield who pulled off the act for the gorge legislation.

Vic Gilliam, 503-986-1403, is chief sponsor. He was an aide to Hatfield.

Those on the House rules committee: Chris Garrett, 503-986-1438; Wally Hicks, 503-986-1403; Bob Jenson, 503-986-1468; Vicki Berger, 503-986-1420; or write them through the legislative website,

Let’s take time to visit Salem.

Bobbie Miller
