Letter to the Editor: Jobs At Any Cost?

— Jobs At Any Cost?

To the editor:

If leaking tanks at Hanford meant more jobs for our region, would we support more leaking tanks?

That’s how ridiculous and short sighted it is to say that jobs are more important than anything we might learn about the environmental ramifications of coal exports. In the long run, it won’t matter if there are jobs if there is no one healthy enough to take them.

Seeing the big picture is what we need from our local officials. We can and should work together to create a sustainable and healthy economy– an economy that is not dependent upon the degradation of the environment and the livability of our community.
