Letter to the Editor: Thanks, volunteers

Thanks, volunteers

To the editor:

On behalf of our Mid-Columbia Medical Center Volunteer Department, I’d like to express appreciation to all of the individuals that currently volunteer or have volunteered for us in years past.

We clearly could not do what we do, without our wonderful Hospital Volunteers and Auxiliary Gift Shop. Hundreds of MCMC volunteers provide a listening ear, a kind word, a prayer, staff the Auxiliary gift shop, help with projects, read to children, provide fresh flowers and teddy bears, make prayer shawls, clown, courier, and do what-ever is needed at the time! More and more now, volunteerism is shown to be good for our health – the connections with others and the acts of helping others provide meaning and purpose in our lives which helps our sense of well-being. Love is always good medicine; for those giving as well as those receiving! I invite you and encourage you to consider being a volunteer at MCMC – we are able to provide a meal voucher, the fellowship of other wonderful people, the satisfaction of knowing you make a difference, and fun! If you would like more information, or are interested in coming back to volunteer, join us for an MCMC Volunteer information open house on Thursday May 16 between 9 a.m. and noon in the MCMC Conference Room I in the main hospital building or contact us at or 541.296.7266. We place volunteers at Water’s Edge, Celilo, Planetree Health Resource Center, Visiting Health Services, Clinics, Special Events, as well as the Hospital. Again, thank you to our incredible MCMC Volunteers for all your gifts of time and compassion for our patients and our community! Wishing you good health and happiness.

Joyce Powell Morin RN,

MCMC Volunteer Services

and Planetree Coordinator
