After two losses over the weekend over first-place Stanfield, the Sherman Huskies three games behind Irrigon and Pilot Rock have four games remaining to earn a shot at a district berth.
The No. 6 Stanfield Tigers posted mercy-ruled wins of 14-2 and 12-0 Friday in Blue Mountain Conference baseball play in Stanfield.
In the opener, Stanfield scored two runs in the first frame and added four in the second, three in the third and seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with 14 hits off Husky pitchers Austin Kaseberg and Jarred Davis.
Of the 14 runs allowed, only six were earned, as the Sherman defense committed six errors.
Eddy Lopez led the Husky offense with a 1 for 2 effort with a double and two RBIs. Nick Coleman had a hit, a walk and a run scored, and both Alex Fields and Nick von Borstel notched a hit each.
In the nightcap, Stanfield broke open a 3-0 lead with eight runs in the third frame and added two more in the fourth to run out to a 12-0 win and a sweep.
Supported by the offense, Stanfield’s Bryce Linker went 4 for 4 with two runs and two RBIs, and tossed five innings of one-hit ball with 12 strikeouts.
Lopez and Davis received walks for Sherman and von Borstel kicked in the Huskies’ lone hit.
Davis got the starting nod and he allowed eight hits, nine runs, two earned, issued two walks and struck out two.
Once again, the huskies committed six errors and just four of the runs allowed were earned.
Sherman (4-1 overall, 3-7 league) plays Horizon (4-13, 0-10) at 11 a.m. Saturday.
