Take a second look at veteran’s benefits

— If you have previously been discouraged about working through the VA system, now is a good time to renew your efforts.

Wasco County Veterans’ Services is here to help you in obtaining any benefits you may have earned through your service in the Armed Forces. Successful claims can be life-changing and you owe it to yourself and your spouse to find out just where you stand.

Drop in at the VSO or call for an appointment at 541-506-2502.

Veterans’ activities:

• Gorge Heroes is partnering with Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue on National Armed Forces Day (May 18) to showcase the work of emergency responders and raise funds to support our overseas military and National Guard. Included at this Fire Hall event will be a yard sale and barbecue. Call RaeLynn at 541-769-0149 or the VSO for information on how to donate items for the yard sale.

• Widows of Veterans Support Group meets at 11 a.m. on the second Tuesday of each month at the VSO. Areas of focus include entitled VA benefits, grief support, and moving forward after a loss. Call the VSO for information.

• The Veterans Ad Hoc Committee meets at noon on the first Monday of each month at the Civic Auditorium in The Dalles. This is an informal gathering where everything starts. If you have an interest in veterans’ issues, please attend and voice any questions and concerns.

• Wasco County Board of Commissioners is seeking members to serve on the Veterans Services Advisory Committee. The committee meets the first Thursday of each month to address veterans services in Wasco County. Call 541-506-2520 or get applications at the Veterans’ Services Office or online at www.co.wasco.or.us.
