Letter to the Editor: Mr. Peterson

To the editor:

On July 10, 2013, Denny Peterson passed away. His obituary told of his accomplishments in sports, which were more than worth mentioning; however his accomplishments in education were not mentioned.

Denny was the principal of Chenowith Primary School for 16 years from 1978 to 1994. Denny was a fair, honest, kind and competent individual, and respected by all who knew him. The students loved to see him with his baseball glove and bat, when meeting them at the noon recess. Playing baseball with Mr. Peterson was more than fun, but also an education in life.

When District 9 built the new gymnasium at Chenowith Primary School, the employees petitions the superintendent’s office and the district school board to name the new building the “K. Denny Peterson Gymnasium.”

Denny leaves behind his family, but he also leaves behind hundreds of students and staff who adored him as a boss and friend. Happy trails, Denny. We will miss you. Thank you for being our boss and friend. It was a pleasure. Your Chenowith staff and the many students whose lives you have touched, will never forget you.

Memorials may be sent to the SMART program at Chenowith Elementary in Denny’s name.
