Temperatures warmer than normal for July

­Temperatures at The Dalles airport averaged warmer than normal during the month of July, according to preliminary data received by NOAA’s National Weather Service in Pendleton.

The average temperature was 76.4 degrees, 2.3 degrees above normal. High temperatures averaged 91.7 degrees, 3.7 degrees above normal. The highest was 102 degrees July 2. Low temperatures averaged 61.0 degrees, 0.9 degrees above normal. The lowest was 52 degrees July 13.

On 17 days, the temperature exceeded 90 degrees. It was at least 100 degrees on 4 days.

Precipitation totaled 0.00 inches during July, which was 0.17 inches below normal.

Precipitation this year has reached 4.49 inches, which is 2.54 inches below normal. Since October, the water year precipitation at The Dalles airport has been 10.55 inches, which is 2.01 inches below normal.

The highest wind gust was 44 mph on July 4.

The outlook for August from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for above normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. Normal highs for The Dalles airport during August are 88.0 degrees and normal lows are 59.5 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 0.33 inches.
