To the editor:
We were extremely disappointed that The Dalles Chronicle chose to publish a rambling rant by Marilyn Clifford on Sunday, Aug. 4.
Our city has laws and codes, and people who we ask to do the important job of enforcing them.
To viciously connect these dedicated and civic minded individuals to the ills of our society and imagined conspiracies is incomprehensible. If the editorial staff had applied a little common sense, this letter would have been immediately put in the circular file where it belongs.

Editor’s note: As our Editorial Guidelines note, “Letters to the editor and guest columns printed in The Chronicle do not necessarily reflect the opinion or approval of the newspaper. Public officials face a higher burden of criticism than others. It is not The Chronicle’s policy to censor letters that comply with our publication rules, particularly those that relate to issues of the day."
