Weekend brings big crowds for cruise and threshing bee

Cruise the Gorge Classic Weekend and the Dufur Threshing Bee will draw crowds to The Dalles and Dufur for a full weekend of activities.

The Neon Cruise kicks things off Friday night, Aug. 9, bringing classics and even newer models to downtown The Dalles for an informal cruise that shifts into gear at about 7 p.m. and really gets rolling after dark. DJ Music will be on the Court Street main stage starting at 5 p.m., with live music from Live Wire, an AC/DC tribute band, taking the stage at 7 p.m.

Classic car owners can take the opportunity to register for the Show in the Shade, the Mid-Columbia Collector Car Club’s annual car show under the pines at Sorosis Park starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10. Awards are handed out around 3 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 10 and 11, Dufur offers the public to a taste of down-home hospitality and a look at how harvest was done in yesteryear.

Highlights of the Threshing Bee are the Grange breakfast from 6 to 11 a.m. at Dufur City Park, the parade at 10 a.m. Saturday featuring horses, tractors and more on Main Street. Harvesting demonstrations will happen through the day in the field just off Main Street.

The tractor pull gets under way at 1 p.m. Saturday.

On Sunday, the Classic Car show runs from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in Dufur City Park. Awards will be given out at 2:30 p.m.

Qheelwright demonstrations, a quilt show, hamburgers, hot dogs, music and raffles round out the fun.
