Youth news in brief for August 13

Maupin kindergarten meeting

Parents of incoming kindergarteners at Maupin Grade School are invited to an informational parent meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 3 from 9-10:30 a.m. in the kindergarten room at the school. Bus schedules will be created at the meeting. Parents are encouraged to register their child as soon as possible by picking up a registration packet at Maupin Grade School on weekdays from 7 a.m. to noon and 1-3 p.m. Call Jody at 541-395-2665 with questions.

School supply donations needed

Salvation Army and St. Vincent de Paul are teaming up to provide school supplies to students in need. Parents can sign their child up at either store through August 16. Donations of school supplies can be dropped off at the stores and monetary donations can be mailed to The Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1970 or St. Vincent de Paul, P.O. Box 553, The Dalles, OR97058.

Sonrise hosting Parent Night

Sonrise Academy, a private Christian school in The Dalles, is holding its annual Parent Night on Thursday, Aug. 7 at 7 p.m. School begins on Monday, Aug. 26 at 8:30 a.m.

District 21 registration begins

The Dalles Wahtonka High School will be open for registration on August 14 and 16 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Aug. 15 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The Dalles Middle School will be open for registration on August 13 and 14 from 8-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. and on Aug 15 from 1-7 p.m. All three elementary schools will be open August 19 and 21 from 8-11 a.m. and 12-3:30 p.m. and on Aug. 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 4-7 p.m.

If you are new to North Wasco County School District or if your child is going to be in kindergarten this year, bring a valid birth certificate and two documents that show proof of address.


Last week’s youth page article “Distinguished Young Woman has local ties” failed to mention that Nicole Renard’s grandparents on the other side (Larry and Debi Renard) as well as cousins Cheyenne and Sierra Renard, also live in the area.
