Gorge Gatherings to benefit college

— Food, fun and friends come together this summer in “Columbia Gorge Gatherings.” The new annual series of events to benefit Columbia Gorge Community College Foundation’s permanent endowment.

“Columbia Gorge Gatherings” began in July and continues with an exploration of Southern Hemisphere wines Sunday, Aug. 25.

“End your weekend with an intriguing and flavorful dinner, hosted by White Buffalo in Hood River, featuring select wines from Argentina, Chile, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia and paired with regional foods,” said Steph Hoppe, foundation manager.

Southern Hemisphere Wine Exploration starts at 5 p.m. Aug. 25 and is limited to 30 guests.

The Harvest Tea Luncheon follows in September.

“Celebrate harvest at The Riverenza in The Dalles with a delicious ‘green’ menu, a cup of tea and dear friends,” Hoppe said. The luncheon is Sunday, Sept. 15, at 12:30 p.m. Limit is 60 guests.

Gorge Gatherings’ inaugural event arrived Saturday, July 27, when hosts Carina and Ron Schmidt offered a seafood buffet and happy hour cruise from The Dalles Yacht Club. The event sold out quickly.

All events raise funds for the college foundation’s endowment. The U.S. Department of Education will match up to $40,000 of contributions made to the CGCC Foundation fund up to Sept. 30.

That provides series participants with the opportunity to double the impact of their gifts.

Reservations are required for all events planned as part of the Columbia Gorge Gatherings.
