House fire hits in The Dalles

— In the midst of grappling with a major conflagration, local firefighters still have to address other emergencies around their district, and that’s just what they did Monday, when a house at 513 Terrace Drive in east The Dalles caught fire.

“Initial crews responding found light smoke under the eaves of the roof,” said Dave Lapof, division chief for Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue. “With further fire attack, they pulled the ceiling down and found that a light fixture was apparently the cause of the fire.”

Lapof estimated damage at around $25,000. The occupant and a pet dog escaped unharmed.

Crews responded to the 4 p.m. fire from Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue and Dallesport.
