Things upcoming this week and next in the Columbia River Gorge area

Eagle Indian Run due Aug. 31

The Eagle Indian Run is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31, starting at 9 a.m. at Sorosis Park.

The run includes a 3K and a 5K. Entry fee is $10 without shirt and $20 with a shirt if registered by Aug. 28. Day of race registration is $15 and $25 (with T), between 8 and 8:45 a.m.

The event starts and finishes at Sorosis Park, up on the bluff near CGCC.

It includes rolling hills and a bark chip trail around the park, grass start and finish, and a loop around the college on pavement. Awards will go to the top three in each age division.

Proceeds benefit The Dalles Wahtonka Cross Country Teams.

Fair run set for Aug. 17

Pre-registration for the Wasco County Fair Run and Walk will continue through Aug. 14.

The run is set for Saturday, Aug. 17, and includes 3K, 5K, and 10K versions and divisions for all ages. The top three runners in each division will receive ribbons.

Cost to pre-register is $18 with a shirt, $10 without. Proceeds benefit the PE program at South Wasco County High School.

Camping, bathrooms and showers are available to all participants.

Cross Country training on tap

Cross country running sessions are in full swing at Sorosis Park in The Dalles on a nightly basis Monday through Friday.

Official school practices start at 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 19 at Sorosis Park and those practices are for high school and middle school runners.

All paperwork must be turned in to the high school and middle school offices. Juniors, freshmen and seventh graders need to have a physical on file to in order to participate.

TDW volleyball holding car wash

The Dalles Wahtonka High School volleyball team has scheduled its annual fundraiser car wash for Saturday, Aug. 24 at the Urness Motors parking lot starting at 8 a.m. by Cup of Mud Coffee in The Dalles.

Players, coaches and parents will be on hand to wash and dry your vehicles for a donation to the program in order to raise money for equipment upgrades, camps and other needs.

Volleyball officials needed

The Mid-Columbia Volleyball Officials Association is seeking new referees and line judges for the upcoming 2013-14 fall volleyball season.

Complete training is provided.

Officials referee for the local schools in Wasco, Hood River, Sherman and Gilliam counties.

Officials can have fun, serve their community and earn extra money. Training meetings will be held at the NORCOR Juvenile Detention conference room at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 19 and 26; Sept. 9 and 23; and Oct. 7 and 21.
