Swimming, running and other news on tap

— Free swimming for firefighters

To show gratitude to the men and women giving their time fighting the Governament Flat Complex Fire, The North Wasco County Parks and Recreation District is offering free swimming during open hours at Ted Walker Memorial Pool.

When they enter through to the front gates, the ground and air crews just need to identify themselves.

Open swim hours go from 1-4:30 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 1-5 on both Saturday and Sunday.

For more information, call 541-298-2020.

Local co-op plans upcoming

The Dalles Wahtonka and South Wasco County High Schools are one step away from reaching an agreement for starting a cooperative for football starting this fall, pending board approval at tonight’s 5:30 p.m. meeting.

Once agreed upon by the board, the Oregon School Activities Association would then vote to pass this through in a Sept. 9 session.
