Letter to the Editor: Help for children

— To the editor:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our local Salvation Army and Windermere Realty for all their help, love and concern for our school children.

Last winter it came to my attention we had a number of children at the schools that didn’t have warm coats, winter clothing and shoes during the cold weather. I made a stop at the Salvation Army and got a warm reception. I was told to simply go to the counter at the store and let them know what I needed. The clothing made a huge difference in the health and comfort of our children. This action shows the concern they have for the people in The Dalles. Many thanks to everyone at the Salvation Army.

The great group of people at Windermere support so many things involving our school children, National Guard and our veterans. They have collected children’s coats for the schools, sold raffle tickets to fund the vets helping Vets fund, donated food for events for the National Guard and Christmas gifts last year for their children. This is just a few examples. Hats off to you.

I don’t want to forget the rest of our community who so willingly supported these causes. The Dalles is truly a very special place.
