The Dalles Thank you, MCMC
To the editor:
On Oct. 21, I was on my way to a check-up appointment at Celilo Cancer Center and, while trying to get out of my car into a wheelchair (I have severe COPD complications), I twisted around and broke my right femur. After I began screaming in pain, several people from Celilo came out to help me into the chair and then get me to the Emergency Room at the main hospital.
Everyone from that moment on had a hand in saving my life, even though there is no way that I can thank everyone by name. Because of my underlying medical issues, the surgery on my leg could not be done for three days but I was kept pain-free as much as possible. I spent some time on three different floors of the hospital during the x-ray, lab and intensive care, and telly rooms, process of having my leg bone repaired. Everyone on each floor treated me with professional, loving care.
I remember being scared to death and not really understanding what was going on because of the pain medication. But I knew that I was in good hands with Dr. John Schwartz, my surgeon, and all of the hospitalists, and the nurses, certified nursing assistants and respiratory therapists.
And I can’t forget to thank the kitchen staff, especially Steve, for their delicious snacks and meals.
There was a real chance that I might not have lived through the surgery but the medical team at MCMC found a way around my COPD issues to repair the damage to my leg and help me learn to walk again. I was finally able to come home last week to my sweetheart of a husband, Norm, who was always by my side.
I believe this community is well served by having MCMC’s medical team standing by to help out in situations when they are needed the most. If you ever need rehab, please consider M Power in-house rehab center, they are a great team.
