PORTLAND (AP) — Investigators say an abandoned horse found digging in the snow for food near Oregon’s Mt. Hood has been rescued.
KPTV reports an Oregon Transportation Department crew found the animal Thursday morning near Highway 26. Crew members contacted Wasco County sheriff’s deputies, who tried to corral the horse, but it ran into the forest near Government Camp.
Members of a rescue group called Sound Equine Options took hay to the spot where the horse was last seen and the horse was there waiting when they returned Friday. They were able to load the horse into a trailer.
The rescuers say the horse actually seems well-fed and appears to be about 5 years old. It’s very skittish.
