Woman reports gunshot

A woman called police Dec. 17 at 8:42 a.m. to report that a man in a parking lot in the 1200 block of West Sixth Street dropped a gun and it went off.

She saw something drop out of the man’s pocket, then heard a gunshot. The man then picked up a small pistol, put it in his jacket pocket, and walked into the store, according to police logs.

She told dispatchers she found a holster on the ground, but when police arrived, the holster was gone.

She described the man’s attire and appearance to police, and when police checked store video, he was seen entering the store. But he was not seen leaving on the video. Officers searched the store several times but did not see the man.

He was described as being white, five-foot-9 or five-foot-10, in his late 50s or early 60s, with gray hair, and wearing an Army-style green coat, blue jeans, a grey button-up shirt and brown shoes or boots.
