Letter to the Editor: Giving community

— Giving community

To the editor:

As co-advisor of the Dry Hollow Student Council, I would like to thank the people of The Dalles for the generosity they have shown in helping our student council on the many service projects they’ve done this year.

They gave over $600 to our students for UNICEF, and over 1,300 non-perishable food items were donated in support of our school food drive.

During ELFF, our student council members were greeted with open arms at the doors of residents and were given many, many more non-perishable items for those in need.

When we had a giving tree at our school for a local nursing home, they took it upon themselves to make sure everyone in need got a gift. Items were even contributed to Home at Last.

Finally, when our student body president, Taylor Beeks, and I took a short stint ringing bells for the Salvation Army, many of you freely opened your wallets and gave generously to the cause.

My students and I feel blessed to live in such a caring and giving community. We thank you again for your support. We are always looking for service projects. Let us know if we can be of service to you. Have a very wonderful New Year!
