Investigation continues into serious injury accident

— Oregon State Police (OSP) troopers are continuing the investigation into a Friday evening, Feb. 1, serious injury pedestrian-involved crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 84 in The Dalles.

According to Sergeant Les Kipper, on Feb. 1, at about 6:30 p.m., a Toyota van driven by Fadi H. Akoam, 38, from Richland, Wash., was westbound on Interstate 84 near milepost 85 when a man tried to cross the freeway from the south side to the north side and was struck by the van. The pedestrian, identified as Joren Judah Harwood, 25, from The Dalles, was transported by LifeFlight to Oregon Health & Science University with serious injuries.

The van's driver, adult female passenger and three juvenile-age passengers were not injured. The van received major damage in the collision.

State troopers from The Dalles Area Command office are continuing the investigation.

OSP was assisted at the scene by The Dalles Police Department, Mid-Columbia Fire & Rescue, and ODOT. The westbound lanes were closed two hours with a detour in place for traffic to travel through the area.
