To the editor:
As a resident of The Dalles and someone that lives downtown in the Commodore II apartments, I have noticed some hypocrisy.
There is a downtown parking ordinance that states in brief that people that work and live downtown cannot park downtown between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday though Friday. What I have noticed is that employees of the city park right on Third Street and Court Street directly in front of City Hall. Their cars even have the seal of the city on the side.
As I walk two blocks to where I can find parking in the sub freezing temperatures of the gorge winter it’s a nice thought to know that the city employees can drive right up to their place of employment.
To add insult to injury there is a parking lot directly behind city hall with a sign that says “Parking for City Employees.”
So city employees don’t have to worry about finding parking on First Street or Fourth Street and walking in. They could simply park behind the building they work in.
It is really difficult to respect a law that is ignored by the very city that made it.
