The Dalles Spring nightmare
To the editor:
Spring has arrived too early for those involved in animal rescue.
Puppies and kittens are being born and the people who should be responsible are not and the animals are suffering.
Despite the several programs available in this area to help with spaying and neutering, many people still don’t get it.
Recently, volunteers in this area worked together and saved two batches of kittens and some puppies that were abandoned and left in harm’s way.
We cringe to think about the innocent lives lost when we arrive too late or don’t find out about them at all.
Animal cruelty and abandonment is a criminal offense. If you see something, report it. We cannot stop cruelty if we ignore it.
All of us in animal rescue have heard every excuse in the book for not spaying or neutering their pets. None are valid.
Again, there is a lot of help available in this area. All you have to do is ask.
One group deals with dogs, another with dogs and cats. Catlink does feral cats, but we can refer you to other groups.
Please call 541-298-8253 and we will do our best to help.
