Free online maps offer details on local lands

— Finding out property information in Wasco County no longer involves making a formal request to the county and waiting for it to be filled.

The county has launched its own free interactive web map, where anyone can go online and research zoning, property taxes, acreage, ownership, topography and more for any property in Wasco County.

“Wasco County pursued developing the Web Map to provide a wealth of information online,” Commissioner Scott Hege said in a news release. “The web map is intended to provide citizens with self-service 24/7 access to property information that should reduce phones calls and inquires.”

The map can be found by visiting and clicking on the “county maps” link on the right side. A disclaimer appears, which must be accepted. Once the map appears users can click on individual properties for information, search by address or owner, find a specific tax lot or add overlays like topography shading or an aerial view.

Planning Director John Roberts said that the maps are expected to be particularly helpful to professionals like realtors, surveyors and developers, who can now access the information they need from their desk at work.

He said the next step the county will take is to hyperlink property survey and assessor data to the maps, creating “a seamless link and one stop shop” for land information.

The web map was a special project of Sherzod Rakhmonov, a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) intern from Uzbekistan who worked for the county last year.
