‘Earth Laughs in Flowers’ shows in Hood River

Wildflower lovers will see the best of Columbia Gorge wildflowers this month at the Columbia Art Gallery.

The Earth Laughs In Flowers is open through July.

Show curator Peter Marbach says the inspiration came from a meeting with Maegan Jossey, outdoor programs coordinator for Friends of the Columbia Gorge, sponsor of the show.

“When I learned that Maegan was planning a theme of wildflowers for their 25 challenge hikes, it was a great fit for a show.” Marbach said.

Marbach struggled with what to call the show, so he went for a thinking hike to Dog Mountain, a premier wildflower destination.

At the trailhead is an information display on wildflowers. At the bottom was the “Earth Laughs in Flowers” quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson. “It’s a perfect description of the singular joy and uplift of spirit that wildflowers give us,” says Marbach.

The top three winners of the juried show will win prizes awarded by contest sponsor Pro Photo Supply. Judges for the contest included Portland photographer and filmmaker Jeff Snyder, Lori Carruthers with Pro Photo Supply, and Maegan Jossey with Friends of the Columbia Gorge. New this year is a silent auction on a new wildflower piece by Hood River photographer Peter Marbach.
