The Dalles To the editor:
I’ve lived in The Dalles about 8 years. I came here primarily because it’s drier, warmer and friendlier than where Iived.
I have observed the improvements to the CIty with new businesses, urban renewal, bike paths etc.
To me, it’s a city that cares about itself. Some would disagree, but I’m not here to debate what I’ve seen.
I walk around town east to west, north to south. The recently built commercial dock for cruise ships is particularly noteworthy.
National Geographic and Queen of the West companies bring tourists, who bring money. The adjacent L & C Festival Park is well-designed and attractive, and used by many.
I had occasion to use the facilities yesterday and was appalled at how filthy and messed up it was. The only thing that worked was the water and the door to gain access. I almost threw up!
If I was a tourist just getting off the Queen of the West, etc., and walked in there, I would stay out of town, get back on board and tell 10 of my friends back home to stay away from The Dalles.
City Fathers need to inspect this place daily before the Occupy City Park protesters move in, literally. It’s atrocious. Fix it.
