To the editor:
How many made-up horror stories do we have to read about that is scare tactics concerning the item of coal?
I grew up on a ranch in Wyoming. We heated with coal dumped in our basement. It didn’t kill any of us. In fact, my mother lived to be 101.
We have just returned from a visit and got to witness a coal plant that generates electricity to three states. It is run by coal — and, yes, you see lots of trains in the state. We didn’t see the wind blowing the coal off the trains.
This is a very large facility in Wheatland, Wyo., that provides many jobs. They spent $355 million for sophisticated environmental controls. Everything recycled, water and all in this plant. We took pictures — there were zero emissions coming from the stacks. We know we need jobs, and yet these scare tactics continue.
If you would like information on what coal can do, contact Laramie River Station, 347 Grayrocks Rd, PO Box 489, Wheatland, Wyo., 82201-0489 or phone 307-322-9601.
