Smoking with oxegen sparks Portland fires

PORTLAND (AP) — Nine fires in the past year-and-a-half in Portland have been caused by patients who continue to smoke while receiving extra oxygen at home.

A Portland Fire Bureau lieutenant and Oregon Burn Center surgeon got together Wednesday to say the fires are preventable.

The Oregonian reports Lt. Rich Tyler and Dr. Joseph Pulito say smokers put themselves, their families and their homes at risk if they don't stop smoking while receiving pure oxygen.
