Moving ahead: Google’s proposed data center expansion project cleared yet another administrative hurdle July 18, gaining site plan approval through The Dalles planning department.

The decision follows approval of the company’s conditional use permit and height variance, obtained earlier this year.

The two-story building is expected to be up to 80 feet tall and will fit between existing buildings on Google property.

Google officials said earlier this year that the approvals are preliminary, although site preparation activities may be under way. However, a variance approved in June has a one-year time limit, two years with an extension.

Goodwill boutique opens soon: As construction continues on their store at West Sixth and Cherry Heights, Goodwill is getting set to open its boutique in Hood River, called Goodwill on Oak.

The store, located at 304 Oak St. in downtown Hood River, will open Thursday, Aug. 8, at 8 a.m. with 1,380 square feet of retail space.

The shop will feature some of the charity’s highest-end donations. It will be one of three Goodwill boutiques. The other two are located in Portland’s downtown and Hawthorne districts.

A few of the boutique brands offered for men and women include Christian Dior, Armani, Burberry and Diesel, a Goodwill announcement stated. The store will also feature small housewares, art and athletic ware.

With every donation sold, Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette puts 95 cents on the dollar directly to funding local mission services. In 2012, the organization served more than 52,000 northwest Oregon and southwest Washington people with barriers to employment.
