Letter to the Editor: Stop the appeals

— Stop the appeals

To the editor:

When are all these appeals going to stop from Citizens for Responsible Development? We need jobs here in this town. I am wondering how 100 people can dictate what 11900 people want. This group should spend their money on helping someone who needs a job to feed their family or work to bring someone else so people can have a job. I live in downtown The Dalles and it is half empty without Walmart here. I have seen the exact opposite with Walmart coming to towns; they bring other business like Game Stop, Sonic, and Panda Express. As for the wetlands, Walmart has done more than required to fulfill requirements. This delay has cost us jobs and I know of some people that have had to move away because of it.

As for people writing about other towns, do we know the positive things that happened in their town or are we just seeing what a writer would say from their point of view?

I don't believe CFRD's motives are about wetlands; they just don't want Walmart, they want Costco and most people who could afford to have a Costco are rich and it would not benefit the everyday person. Actually, Costco won't come here unless we have some other place like Walmart so people can afford to go to Costco.

The key thing is that Walmart would provide jobs for this community and a job is better than no job. I don’t see anyone else wanting to come to us out here. We are kind of isolated out here in the gorge. Something has got to be done soon as I am am starting to see this town gradually die. So please Mr. Nelson and your group, reconsider your appeal for the better of this town. Do it for those families you now represent on the school board it’s because those families most likely need to have a job to take care of their families.
