Walmart responds to appeal

Walmart issued a response late Friday afternoon to a story published in the Chronicle the same day about the appeal of a wetland permit by Citizens for Responsible Growth, which is opposed to the development proposal for west The Dalles.

Rachel Wall, senior manager of communications for Walmart, provided the following written statement May 31:

"We are reviewing the appeal filed by the opposition group. The fact is, our plans for this project have undergone extensive review and legal scrutiny - and have been approved at each step.

'We don't see any reason that these continued appeals will meet a different outcome. We look forward to the day we can provide our customers in the gorge another full-service shopping option.

'The community has been very supportive throughout this prolonged process and we appreciate all those who have worked with us."

Considering what Walmart will bring to the area, more jobs, other businesses. I don't understand why the continuing appeals. My taxes are high enough thank-you, I've been unemployed long enough thank-you. Get over yourselves. When the waterfront park went in there was no uproar, when the waterfront trail went in there was no uproar, When Google moved in there was no uproar. So just what really is the issue?
