Hood River’s Mark DeResta and Zach Mikkelson continued their dominance and The Dalles’ Thomas Morgan kept up with his winning ways this past Thursday in the Gorge Mountain Bike Short Track Series Race No. 3, presented by Breakaway Promotions, on the EasyCLIMB trails in Cascades Locks.
The track conditions were fast, with a few puddles and mud spots to negotiate, but that did not stop this top trio.
Mikkelson scored top marks in the Junior Men’s category, while Trout Lake, Wash.’s Micah Melkonian finished second. Davis Melkonian was good enough for third place.
DeResta had 10 other riders on his back and he cruised to an easy win.
Gresham’s Joe Ketner placed second and the Portland trio of Gregg Rice, Matt Hooge and Ruby Graig rounded out the top-5.
Washougal’s Joe Klemmer came in sixth place and Hood River’s Brad Cross ended up seventh.
The series has been drawing riders from not only the Gorge areas of Hood River, White Salmon, The Dalles, Trout Lake, Mosier; but also from Vancouver, Fairview, Washougal, Irrigon, Gresham, and Portland.
Morgan took care of business in the Category 2 Men’s 45-years old and older classification.
Hood River’s Loren Mason-Gere was second in the Category 1 division for athletes 19-34, and Trout Lake’s Lora Melkonian slipped past Hood River’s Temira Wagonfeld for first in the women’s 35 and older Category 2 bracket.
There are still two more races in the series, with both dates on Thursday, June 6 and then the following week on June 13.
Registration opens at 4 p.m., with the first race at 5:30 p.m. and Professionals at 7:40 p.m.
