The Dalles Art Assocation hosts Summer Art Camp

— The Dalles Art Association hosts summer art camp classes beginning June 18 at The Dalles Art Center.

Morning class sessions are for children ages 6 to 8 and run from 10:30 a.m. to noon. Afternoon classes are for ages 9 to 14 and run from 1 to 3 p.m.

June 18 – Bowl making with Toms Royal Day 1. In the two-day class, students will learn to create bowls out of clay and various glazing techniques.

June 19-20 – Found object art with Sarah Starr. Students will create a three-dimensional work with a variety of found objects and the application of paint and adhesives. Students are encouraged to bring their own found objects, while a limited number of objects will be provided.

June 25 – Bowl making with Toms Royal Day 2. Students will learn to apply glaze in their own design onto the fired bowls. The finished pieces will be available for pick-up one week after class.

June 26 – Exploring color with Sarah Starr. Students will explore color after a lesson in color theory, including the color wheel, complementary color, value, tints, shades, etc. They will apply their new knowledge through the creation of an abstract design.

June 27 – Aboriginal/Pointillism Painting with Sarah Starr. Students will learn about aboriginal and pointillist painting through examples and techniques to create particular effects. They will then create a work of art (landscape or still life) and apply the methods learned.
