Crawling for the Cause debuts

The Fort Dalles Rodeo Association is launching the Cowboys Crawling for the Cause pub crawl to benefit local cancer prevention.

Crawlers will roam between downtown bars wearing T-shirts identifying them as part of the crawl. Proceeds from the shirts benefit Breast Health for Strong Families.

T-shirts will go on sale Friday, June 21, at Clock Tower Ales beginning at 7 p.m. on the patio. The band Groove Project will perform and the Fort Dalles Rodeo Queen will be on hand.

The crawl itself, a 21-and-older event, is Saturday, July 13, during the Jammin’ July Street Fest.

“We will have a booth at Qwik-Change Lube Center for all crawlers to stop by and pick up their survival bags,” said Barbara PIzzola, event organizer. “They will have raffle tickets, a bottle of water, aspirin...”

Each bar will have drawings, then a central drawing will take place at the end of the night. Event coordinators will be roaming the streets between the bars offering assistance as needed, including arranging rides home for the crawlers, if necessary. T-shirts will also be on sale at the Rivertap Pub, Sunshine Mill and Gone Country.

“It’s a good cause that helps people survive and we want everybody to just have a good time,” Pizzola said.
