Letter to the Editor: Too tiny type

— To the editor:

This is an open letter to all the companies who print our local phone books:

I have one very big question: Why do you print all the phone numbers, especially the white pages, in such small print? I wear tri-focal glasses, and still need to find a magnifying glass to be able to read the 2013-2014 phone books. This is for both the CenturyLink and the black “Columbia Gorge” newest directories. The books themselves are smaller each year — I know they’re trying to be “conservationist friendly” and save the trees, but this is getting ridiculous!

If a person doesn’t have 20/20 vision, they have difficulty reading (or even finding) the name and phone number they have to call.

The only book for the current year that is easier to read is the blue directory put out by

Am I the only person in town who has this problem, or are there others who feel the same way?
