Scam targets PUD customers

— Northern Wasco County PUD is warning customers of a telephone scam that appears to be targeting utility customers in the area.

Several Northern Wasco County PUD customers received calls Wednesday, June 19, from a person in Utah claiming that the customer’s electricity was going to be disconnected if they did not send money. They were instructed to go to Walmart or Kmart to get a green application to fill out and to call a woman back by the name of Carmen. They were instructed to send $300.

Northern Wasco County PUD employees carry PUD identification. We advise our customers to never give out credit card and bank account information or cash to someone who poses as a PUD representative.

If in doubt, get the individual’s name and immediately call the Northern Wasco County PUD Office at 541-296-2226.
