— Support breast cancer research and patients while by enjoying the fun and excitement of the Deschutes River and the fun at the Splash for Pink event June 29 in Maupin.

Splash for Pink will feature 13-mile raft trips, barbecue lunch, raffle, silent auction, a kids fun area and live music.

Net proceeds will benefit the Celilo Cancer Center at the Mid-Columbia Health Foundation in The Dalles, Sara’s Project at the St. Charles Foundation in Central Oregon and the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute in Portland.

Last year, the event raised $20,500 for breast cancer. Organizers are aiming for a new record to change the lives of more women in 2013.

Raft trips depart at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. on the lawn of the Imperial River Company.

The volleyball tournament begins at 11 a.m. Bring a team and play for prizes. This is a 4S co-ed volleyball tournament with sand and grass courts. Pool play followed by tournament bracket. Cost is $60 per team. Team members get a Splash for Pink T-shirt.

The days’ activities begin with the Lions Club pancake breakfast from 8 to 10:30 a.m. The silent auction runs until 4 p.m. in the raft shop.

In the afternoon, there will be a barbecue lunch done up by Bug’s Bad Ass BBQ with live music on the lawn.

A kids fun area with a climbing wall and Bouncy house are also planned.

The Texas Hold’em Poker Tournament starts at 1 p.m.

Helicopter rides will run throughout the day. Raffle prizes include those of local businesses. For the evening, there will be free beer, wine and liquor tasting followed by live music and a barbecue smoked dinner.

A full bar including pink drink specials will be available as well. The Jager Bumz band will provide entertainment.

Friday, there’s a golf tournament at Pine Meadows Golf Course in the Pine Hollow area, benefiting the Splash for Pink activities.

For more information on the tournament, call 541-544-2422.

After the golf tournament will be a fundraiser dinner and oral auction.

Big raffle ticket items are a Cruiser bicycle and a Bikini swim suit; A 7mm Hawkeye bolt-action hunting rifle, Richmond’s Service will also be raffling off a gun.

The Deschutes Motel and High Desert River outfitters will be raffling a Pink Kayak. Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20.

Organizers are still collecting bras to be strung across the Maupin Bridge again this year. Maupin Market has a box that is beginning to fill up, but definitely needs more. The goal is to be able to string the bras clear across the bridge — an effort to call attention to the serious need for breast cancer awareness and cure.

Splash for Pink will have T-shirts for sale for $15, but volunteers for a few hours can get one free.

Call Cristie at 541-993-1708 to volunteer.
