Fire at Irvine
Fire destroyed a pickup truck and travel trailer parked off Irvine Street Friday afternoon.
Trailer fire spreads damage
The cause of a camp trailer fire that quickly spread to include a camper and pickup, trees and a neighboring fence in the 1000 block of Irvine Street in west The Dalles remains under investigation. Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue and Dallesport Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 10:56 a.m. call. “We had multiple vehicles and campers on fire,” said Capt. Fred Coleman. “It was down a long driveway so it was in a confined space.” No one was in the vehicle or campers, Coleman said. A simultaneous ambulance call split the forces available to fight the fire, leaving the scene a bit short on manpower, “Plus it was hotter than heck,” Coleman said. “We were short-staffed, but we got her done.” The initial blaze was controlled within about eight minutes. The last Mid-Columbia Fire and Rescue vehicle left the scene at 12:24 p.m.
