Wahtonka FB reunion slated

The 1982 Wahtonka High School Eagles Football team will be commemorated in a reunion celebrating 31 years of its improbable playoff run under head coach Jeff Scurran at Spooky’s Pizza at 7 p.m. this Saturday in The Dalles.

Scurran landed his first high school coaching job in 1981 at Wahtonka High School.

After one season, he took a team that had been winless the two previous seasons (0-18 overall) to the state semifinal playoffs.

In his 40-year career, Scurran has won three state championships and was named as the National High School Coach of the Year.

All football fans and former athletes are welcome to attend.

Get ready for St. Patty’s run

The annual St. Patrick’s Day River 3k, 5k and 10k run/walk is on tap for 10 a.m. Saturday, March 16, at The Dalles Marina.

Cost to register is $8 with no shirt for pre-registered members before March 10. Cost is $10 on the day of event.

TD softball to host tryouts

The Dalles girl’s softball organization will have two tryouts for girls ages 5 to 14 this weekend at Sorosis Park in The Dalles.

The first tryout day is at 10 a.m. Saturday, and the second is at 1 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.

Tryouts take about two hours in duration.

Coaches will contact players by April 1 and the season starts on Saturday, May 4 with a jamboree.

Babe Ruth holding tryouts

The Dalles Babe Ruth organization hosting tryouts starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 9 at Quinton Street Ballpark in The Dalles.

All registered 13 and 14-year olds must be in attendance to try out.

All players must bring all equipment, including glove, bat and a helmet.

Tumbleweed Tourney slated

The three-day Tumbleweed Men’s Basketball Fundraiser Tournament is coming to Condon starting Friday.

This is strictly a men’s tournament so no high school athletes or city league teams are allowed to sign up.

Fees start at $300 per team and all funds go toward Condon-Wheeler basketball.

Adult softball taking signups

The Northern Wasco County Parks and Recreation District has opened registration for the upcoming 2012 adult co-ed softball season this summer.

All games are played on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings and some Thursdays at Kramer Field.

The season runs from May 21 until the final regular season game Aug. 8.

Registration packs are available in the district office or parties can register at www.nwprd.org.

All softball registration closes May 10 or when the league is full, whichever occurs first.

ACTS Youth hoops scheduled

Boys and girls in third to ninth grades are invited to play basketball in a camp setting on Saturdays at Calvary Baptist Church on 3350 Columbia View Drive in The Dalles.

Players in third through fifth grades meet between 9-11 a.m. and the sixth through ninth graders go from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Participants are asked to bring $2 each week they attend.

Players are taught basic skills on the game of basketball, then they spend time playing games.

Co-ed volleyball games on tap

The North Wasco County Parks and Recreation Department has announced signups for co-ed volleyball for adults ages 18 or older.

This is not an organized league, but pickup volleyball games are played every Thursday night at the Wahtonka High School Gymnasium from 6-8 p.m. until May 9.
