Letter to the Editor: Wonderful care

— Wonderful care

To the editor:

We recently visited Home At Last Shelter and fell in love with a stray dog. We had lost the “perfect” dog a few years ago and thought we would never find one like her again. We were wrong!

We filled out the necessary forms to adopt her and began talking with Gale and the rest of the staff about how much we loved this dog. We visited and called to check on her, and on the day we were to pick up her, she became very ill.

Gale informed me that she would need round-the-clock care, and that she may need to be transported to Portland. There was a chance she might not live.

We were devastated, as were our kids, but we waited and looked forward to phone calls from Gale regarding the dog’s status. Gale called us after hours, sent us text messages, and literally nursed the dog back to life. She even stayed the night and slept next to the dog’s cage (on the floor at the animal shelter) to make sure she was ok and to administer IV fluids and medications.

She fed her baby cream of wheat cereal with a spoon and gave her love and care that she had not had in long time.

We were finally able to bring our dog home a few weeks ago and our family is now complete. We were so impressed with the staff at Home At Last, and particularly with Gale Simpson.

Gale, you are an angel. You brought our sweet Lilly back to life and took great care of her for us. Lilly is our little boy’s best friend and she sneaks into his room at night to sleep on his bed.

Thank you, Gale and Home At Last staff, for caring so much for animals (and for taking such wonderful care of our Lilly!) And we encourage anyone who has the ability to adopt from this shelter, and to support it. They are doing wonderful things there and they truly care about the welfare of these sweet animals.
