The Dalles City police arrested two teen-age juveniles, one early Tuesday morning and one Tuesday afternoon, in connection with a rash of car prowls on the east side of The Dalles.
A 16-year-old was jailed, while a 14-year-old was released to his parents.
“This is going to clear multiple numbers of car prowls,” said The Dalles Police Chief Jay Waterbury. “We are still working to get some of the property back. I’m afraid some is gone already.”
Waterbury added that this won’t clear all of the city’s car prowl cases.
“We still have people out there doing this kind of stuff.”
Among the items taken were phones, cameras, lottery tickets, pepper spray, headphones.
Most of the items were taken from unlocked cars, but a window was broken to acquire a laptop that Waterbury believed was probably in plain sight.
He urged owners to lock their vehicles and keep valuables out of sight.
