Oregon Veterans’ Home in The Dalles wins top rating

In its fifth annual “Best Nursing Homes” ratings on Feb. 26, U.S. News & World Report named the Oregon Veterans’ Home in The Dalles one of the top-rated nursing homes in Oregon.

The ratings cover more than 15,000 nursing homes nationwide.

“All seniors deserve the best nursing care available and we’ve made sure the information they need is at their fingertips...” said Avery Comarow, U.S. News health rankings editor.

Among several noted points of excellence, the home met health and safety standards for food preparation and other nursing home activities. The inspections are conducted every 15 months.

“Residents at the Oregon Veterans’ Home are like family and that’s how they’re cared for by the excellent staff and volunteers here,” said Cameron Smith, veterans’ home director. The home’s staff is able to care for as many as 151 residents who need long-term care in a skilled nursing facility.
