The Dalles To the editor:
Much of the news recently has been about the use of drones to kill suspected terrorists, including U.S. citizens on U.S. soil and other countries. The key words in this sentence are U.S. citizens and suspected. President Obama and his administration still have not justified the legality of drone use. The use of drones is the president’s decision. Democrats ridiculed President Bush for being the decider, but give Obama a free pass. In this instance, the only difference between Obama and Bush is Obama was given the Nobel Prize for Peace.
Should we be concerned when neoconservative warnmongering Republicans from the Bush administration praise President Obama for his use of drones? We know how well Iraq went when they were in power. Democrats are using the same reasons to support Obama’s use of drones as Republicans did to support Bush’s use of water boarding. Are we setting a precedent?
Are we becoming more like that which we are fighting?
